Schnitzel-9/1-1755-This spunky little girl arrived frightened and saucy. She was not going to let us love her….at first…. but we won her over and now she is sugar sweet! Such a precious puppy. Reminds us that difficult dogs ( and people) are not giving you a hard time, they are having a hard time. Schnitzel needs some love and understanding to overcome her rough start in life.

Sundae-9/3-1354-Super adorable tri colored mixed girl. Sundae is a great size, about 35 pounds. She is so happy and sweet. We had a great time on our walk. She arrived in good spirits and has remained upbeat and stable. Love this little girl!!!

Sally-8/29-1817-Beautiful, gentle, and very sweet girl hoping for another chance to find a permanent home. Sally is really lovely. She was great on our walk, she is a little timid but opened up when we sat and visited. Her coat is in great shape, she’s not been out on the street long but no parents have come for her. So sad.

Shemp-9/1-1192-What a character! This boy is so happy despite his circumstances, he is loving life and everyone! Great with all people and non reactive to other dogs. Shemp is sailing though life with a smile on his face. He is always so animated when he sees us. He is built like a Bassett Hound, short, but not a small dog. We’d love to see him find his happy ever after!

Sinclair-8/23-1732-55 pound hound type mix, this girl came in with a newer purple collar and leash, very nice brand, as if she literally just slipped away from her human. No one has come looking for Sinclair. She is excellent on leash and has a very calm demeanor. She was frightened by the picture taking experience but the rest of our visit was lovely. She stays close and looks to you for direction.

Schmoo-8/31-1822-If we were still on the letter R this would definitely be Roger Rabbit but this is letter S week, please meet Schmoo! These pictures are not enhanced! This boy looks like a cartoon character. He is quite thin but much larger than you can realize in these pictures. He would probably be 70 pounds if he was in good weight. His ears are absolutely cones of sound collection!!! Schmoo is strong for a skinny guy and he was VERY happy to walk/drag me around and show off his ears! He really does walk with a purpose and he’s so excited to see everything! He is very curious and lively, he had no negative reaction to any of the other inmates going bonkers, tail up and wagging but not in a stressful excited way, truly a happy wag.

This great boy really deserves a chance outside the shelter to see what he is like, he does have some skin stuff going on, could be fleas, it doesn’t look like he has been cared for well, his ears look like he’s got some fly strike. Fabulous temperament, extremely happy to see everybody. Even though he has not displayed a negative reaction to other dogs due to his size and the fact that he is not neutered we recommend opposite sex friends, he would do best in a home with a female companion.

Sydney-8/31-1357-this girl is absolutely fabulous, the panda bear face is so adorable. She has a lovely temperament. She is currently fighting kennel cough and is a little down, she is quiet and reserved. Excellent on leash. She will make a fabulous companion for some lucky family or person! Syd is a few years old and 45 pounds.

Samba-8/30-1358-not trying to start Internet controversy but Samba looks and behaves very much like a Basenji. Of course we have no way of knowing breed heritage but he has a lot of the characteristics and he does not bark, I have not heard him yodel but he definitely does not bark. Samba is a young adult, maybe 9-10 months old. He is about 30 pounds. Wonderful temperament. He is busy and curious. We had a great time on the walk. He is super smart. I have not seen him with a small animals, he was ready to engage with other dogs in a playful manner.

Please share him to your Basenji contacts if you have any.

Sterling-8/23-1757-Precious puppy boy Sterling. 32 pounds, about 6-7 months old. Perhaps the start of rickets from poor nutrition. Sterling has a burn scar on his shoulder area, most likely from over the counter flea prevention or something caustic used as flea prevention. Sadly we see that often. This baby is so sweet, he is polite and ready to learn all the house rules. He was great on leash for an active puppy. Sterling has been dewormed and is getting an extra meal but he would really benefit from a home of his own outside the shelter during his critical young months.

Salsa-8/30-1191-THIS BOY! I really cannot say enough about Salsa! He was so patient as I passed him by over and over again doing pictures, I would catch him watching me and struggling to sit while wagging his tail as if he was thinking, "don't be too pushy, don't over do it" It was finally his turn and he looked like a show pony, he was so proud walking past the other dogs, tail wagging, prancing, he had zero reaction to the barrier reactive kids lunging and barking. He was in heaven, it was FINALLY HIS TURN! He peed a river when we got outside, he urinated multiple times, usually the mark of a housebroken dog who does not want to toilet in their kennel/living space. He may have only fallen on hard times recently. Maybe he had a home where he was loved, treasured and he got displaced. He is horribly thin, his coat is sparse, he needs some serious faith restoration, his humans really let him down. I love this boy and I really hope one of my rescue partners will make space for him.

S-Dale-8/29-1806-Such a lover, Dale is so happy and well adjusted in the kennel. He is very thin, super thin, he has been dewormed and is getting an extra meal but he really needs a family or person of his own to shower him with love, care, and attention. He had a great time on our walk and was non reactive with other dogs.

Simone-8/17-1687-Absolutely beautiful reverse brindle and white mixed girl, Simone is 49 pounds, she is in good weight. So playful, every time I asked her if she wanted to play she was completely ready for it! She does know sit and she walks well on a leash but she jumps up, she will need just a little bit of fine-tuning. She is very eager and attentive. Lots of energy. She is also polite if you can understand what I’m saying, all those things don’t go together but she does immediately sit when you ask her to and then springs up like a wild rabbit. Really fabulous temperament, very very happy, so far great with other dogs!

Shawn-8/25-1790-incredibly sweet six month old puppy, about 25 pounds. This boy is so shy and just wants to be loved. He’s got a lot of dry skin, possibly flea allergy. He needs a good bath and a safe place to call his own.

RIGGS-8/24-1771-Riggs is so sweet and shy, he has all his baby teeth and is about 20 pounds. He is quiet and hesitated to walk with us but eventually we got the hang of things. Riggs needs a family or person with a lot of love to show him he is safe!

Rory-8/24-1769-I wish you could see Rory through my eyes as he moves to understand he looks like so many things...a Rhodesian Ridgeback in some ways, a Lion, maybe a Shar Pei, he has so many features all stuck together in one magical being. Rory is about 55-60 pounds, neutered, and chipped but no parents came to save him. He is super happy to go for walks and lets you know what he wants.

Remi-8/5-0813-These pictures do not convey this boy and his goofball personality. He has a squishy face you just want to kiss and he is so happy!!! Remi is thin and life has not been kind to him. He is so silly and playful. I was squeezing a water bottle to get his attention, this is not his normal look, he is a goober. He has been non reactive with other large dogs thus far in the shelter. Remi is about 45 pounds and could easily gain 15 to fill out.

Rosalie-8/23-1764-This girl is fabulous! She is about 50 pounds, loves people, non reactive to other dogs, great on our walk and look at those mesmerizing eyes. She would love a home of her own!

Radish-8/6-1586-Super happy and sweet 45 pound dilute red and white Pitbull type male. Radish has not displayed any dog aggression during his stay, he is a lovely young boy with a gentle demeanor. Loves his walks and outdoor time, loves snuggles, and would love a second chance!

Ryland-8/22-1729-Total package right here! This boy! We are in love! He is smart, goofy, friendly as ever! Happy happy happy! So sweet, playful, lovely temperament. He is a huge boy, I would guess at least 80 pounds, he is delightful on leash and will do anything for a cookie-THE POWER OF COOKIES!

We are looking for a large breed experienced indoor home for Ryland, he is not a guard dog or lawn ornament.

We want to set him up for success!

Reese Josephine-8/6-1585-Such a lovely young girl! She is tall and thin, about 45 pounds. RJ is not very sure of herself. she was nervous on our walk and it took a minute to settle in. She is desperate for a gentle and kind human to teach her what the good life is all about!

Rhett-8/15-1678-five month old dilute red Terrier mixed young man, this little boy is adorable, he is quite shy. He wanted to play but he was nervous. He is about 30 pounds, still quite small. Looks like he has not been well cared for. He had no negative reaction to other dogs, he is absolutely precious and hopes to get a second chance.

Rita Suzanne-8/12-1654-We had a hard time getting pictures because Rita Suzanne wanted to enjoy her outdoor time and with her very dark face I was not able to capture her beautiful expression. This is a super fun girl, she is about 45 pounds, spayed, vaccinated, and ready to go! Rita Suzanne was so excited when she heard Bert on the other side of the door. I cut my video short ( accidentally )but the little piece I got is posted in the comment section. This girl is very well behaved and gentle but active if that makes sense. She will very much enjoy leash walks and participating with a busy family but she is not obnoxious.

Rudolph-8/22-1726-This is the sweetest boy! He almost looks like a Pointer mix. He does have one brown spot on his rump. Rudolph is a youngster, he has beautiful new teeth, I would guess about nine months old. He is about 50 pounds right now. Doesn’t he have the most mesmerizing eyes! Rudolph is submissive and does not know how to walk well on a leash, but is learning. He is very gentle and quiet.

This very handsome boy is such a perfect size, he is about 35 pounds, almost like a mini Lab, he would fit in any small space, great for apartment dwellers. He was good on our leash walk, a little excited. He is active but I have the feeling he will also be happy to spend time with his person once he gets acclimated outside the Shelter. He is a young boy, I would guess under two years old. Raleigh is hoping for a second second, the shelter stays full this time of year and all listed pets can be considered urgent.

Scooby-8/10-1623-What a happy guy!!! Scooby may be a Boxer type mix, his tail is docked. He has the most irresistible squishy face! He is super active, friendly!!! and happy happy happy. We guess his age at 1-2 and he is about 50 pounds. Scooby is waiting for a second chance at life! Please consider adoption or rescue!

Porter-8/9-1221-this Mac truck weighs 104 pounds! In person you can tell that he is probably a Rottweiler mix, he has faint points, you can see the mahogany on his cheeks and legs. He loves snacks! He is a bulldozer! He may be a couch potato but on the end of the leash he can definitely take you for a spin. He’s had a wonderful temperament with all of us and has a positive reaction to other large dogs at this point.

Pretzel-8/9-1616-45 pounds of love and tail wagging! This beautiful boy is so sweet, so gentle, so kind! He gets along great with people and other dogs. We had a fabulous time on our walk, Pretzel is a little shy, sometimes that is just the shelter setting. If you are interested in meeting Pretzel do not delay! This time of year is hard for all of the unwanted animals.

Patchouli-8/11-1652-Patchouli is an adorable little girl, she is shy and worried about her surroundings. We saw quite a bit of chatter about her before she arrived at the shelter and we hope someone is coming to adopt! Patchouli is 35 pounds, probably about nine months old. She is a Terrier type mix, in the shelter it has been hard to determine her temperament since she is so shy but she loves all people and has gotten along fabulously with all the dogs she has met. She is looking for a true forever home!

Phaedra 8/8-1590-This super chunk is adorable. She is built thick and a little bit low, such a sweet girl. She is shy at first but once she feels comfortable she loves to play ball and bounce around. We had a lovely walk, Phaedra is about 45 pounds and a few years old. She arrived with a beautiful, newer red collar, no tags, no parents to reclaim. This girl really deserves a FOREVER home!

Nessa-7/21-1470-Sweet 45 pound Brindle mixed female, young adult. Nessa is very sweet, a little shy, she needs some polishing but will be a fabulous companion once someone invests time in her. She was probably an outside dog. Nessa is curious about everything and does not seem to be familiar with indoor living. She has the best smile doesn't she!
